A Night At The Races
Holding a race night is probably the best way to raise funds for your charity, club or society. If done correctly an event of this nature should net around £1000 for an evening with 80-100 participating.
TWNY Race Nights consist of a standard eight race format with eight runners in each race and can include, flat, jump, pig, dog and trotting Races from such places as UK, Australia, USA, Malta and Hong Kong. We also offer a ninth auction race for each event.
All you will need to provide are four 'Tote Totties' to sell tickets for the races and the rest of the night is run by us. The 'Tote Totties' can also participate in the evening so don't worry about them being left out.
All events are run using DVDs and all race selections are made by the 'punters'. A card is randomly selected from 'The Cap' this will indicate a disc number and a specific race from that disc. Doing it this way enables everything about the evening to be fair a above board where not even the DVD operator will know the outcome of a race as the disc is selected after the 'Tote' has closed. We use electronic software which has superseded the totalisator to calculate odds based on tote ticket sales.
How to get started
Once you have booked your race night and have had the date confirmed by us you can sell your 64 horses (suggested amount £5 per horse) to your club or society members who can then name their horse/s (a prize should be offered to winning owners on race night). You can also have your races sponsored by individuals or local businesses (suggested minimum £30.00 per race). Sponsorship raises money for your charity and is a value for money advertising source for the business. As you can see, you should already have covered your costs before race night.
The above should be completed no later than one month prior to the event.
You are now ready to have your race cards produced either by us at The Whole Nine Yards or by a professional print company. These will include all the details of the evening plus the runners, owners and sponsors names.
That's it, you can now sit back and look forward to your race night and leave the rest to us.
Please Note:
To run an event of this nature you will need to obtain a permit from The States of Guernsey, the application for which should be submitted no later than 21 days prior to your event. A fee will be charged for the permit, the cost of which is in addition to our hire charges.
